What is Grit?
Grit, as I have explained to my students over and over again, is the ability to persevere towards long-term goals in spite of obstacles. Grit is about finding something you are truly passionate about and working on that something. Working hard on that something.
Angela Duckworth is at the forefront of research on Grit. I have included her TED talk to the right. She explains how grit can determine success and how it is intertwined with Growth Mindset. For our purposes here, grit helps students to become life-long learners who strive for something, who are passionate about something. Building grit encourages our students to fail forward. |
